UGC Recognition under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956
The College achieved an important milestone in its institutional development by securing recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) and Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956.
The institution, then known as Government College of Commerce & Economics, Borda, Margao, Goa, was included under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 on 11 May 2010. This recognition formally brought the College under the purview of the University Grants Commission, acknowledging it as an eligible institution of higher education affiliated to a recognized university and meeting the prescribed academic and infrastructural standards. Recognition under Section 2(f) is a significant indicator of the College’s academic credibility and compliance with UGC norms.
Subsequently, the College was declared fit to receive Central Assistance under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 on 3 September 2010. The grant of 12(B) status made the College eligible to receive financial assistance from the University Grants Commission and other Central Government agencies for the development of academic infrastructure, research, laboratories, libraries, faculty development programmes, innovation, and other quality enhancement initiatives.
The conferment of both Section 2(f) and Section 12(B) status marked a significant turning point in the growth of the institution. It enabled the College to access various UGC development schemes, strengthen its academic and research ecosystem, and enhance the quality of teaching and learning. These recognitions continue to serve as important hallmarks of the College’s academic standing and institutional excellence.
Although the institution has subsequently undergone a change in its name to Government of Goa’s College of Multidisciplinary Studies & Research, Margao-Goa, the UGC recognition under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) was originally granted in the name of Government College of Commerce & Economics, Borda, Margao, Goa, on 11 May 2010 and 3 September 2010, respectively.
