Transforming Sports Culture: Our College’s Franchise-Based Approach
Sports have always been an integral part of college life, shaping not just physical fitness but also discipline, teamwork, and leadership among students. In our college, a unique and innovative franchise-based system has significantly elevated the standard of sports and student participation over the years.
At the beginning of each academic year, first-year students who have participated at the state or national level are identified and listed for an auction. Based on this list, an auction is conducted where players are selected to form four teams. This process forms the foundation of our college’s sports structure.
Each team is led by a senior teacher who acts as the owner and mentor, supported by other teaching and non-teaching staff as co-mentors. This model not only brings a professional approach to college sports but also strengthens the bond between students and faculty. Once selected, students remain part of the same team from their first year until their third year, ensuring continuity, team spirit, and long-term development.
This franchise system has proven to be a game-changer. It has significantly improved the standard of sports within the college by fostering healthy competition and consistent mentorship. More importantly, it has increased teacher involvement in sports, which has had a direct positive impact on student motivation and performance.
The results of this system are clearly visible in the college’s recent achievements. This year, our students delivered outstanding performances across multiple disciplines:
- In Taekwondo, the college secured a total of 5 medals — 3 silver and 2 bronze — across both men’s and women’s categories.
- In an open deadlift tournament, our women’s powerlifting team excelled by winning 3 medals, including 1 gold and 2 bronze.
- The college also showcased its strength in team sports by winning the cricket championship organized by Rosary College and securing 3rd place at the Goa University Cricket Championship.
Additionally, our students made us proud at the university level, with four students representing Goa University — two in table tennis and three in cricket — highlighting the growing excellence and recognition of our athletes.
This innovative system has not only raised performance standards but has also created a vibrant sporting culture within the college. With strong mentorship, structured development, and enthusiastic participation, our college continues to nurture talent and strive for excellence in sports.
