The Department of Geoinformatics organized a three-day intensive training on “Geospatial Technologies for Precision Surveying: An Experiential Learning in Total Station and DGPS”. The objective of the workshop was to provide participants with a deeper understanding of modern surveying techniques, focusing on advanced instruments for accurate land measurement and geospatial data collection.
The workshop began with an introductory session where the resource person provided an overview of Total Station TS13 and GNSS GS18. Participants learned about the components, setup, and application of these instruments in high-precision surveying. The afternoon session featured hands-on training with the Total Station, allowing participants to calibrate the instrument, measure distances and angles, and record survey data.
The second day focused on GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technology. Participants were introduced to Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) corrections and how they enhance positioning accuracy. In the practical session, they set up GNSS receivers, collected data, and applied RTK corrections to achieve high precision in land mapping, construction surveys, and geospatial studies.
The final day covered survey data processing using Post-Processing (PP) software. Participants learned to install software, input data, and apply corrections to improve accuracy. Hands-on training in static data collection using GNSS was conducted, followed by a Q & A session where participants discussed real-world applications and challenges.
The workshop concluded with an insightful discussion on advancements in geospatial technologies. The valedictory function was graced by Shri Prasad Lolayekar, IAS, Secretary (Education), Government of Goa, who interacted with the students. Mr. Shubham Gude, Assistant Professor in Geoinformatics, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the valuable sessions.
Overall, the workshop was a great success, equipping students and professionals with practical exposure to industry-standard equipment and techniques. On 23rd September 2024, the Department of Geoinformatics at Govt. College Borda organized an educational excursion to Sada Village, located in the Western Ghats. The trip aimed to provide students with a hands-on learning experience in historical landmarks, water conservation techniques, and the region’s rich biodiversity.
The excursion began with a visit to the ancient Step Well, a remarkable structure known for its intricate design and effective water storage system. Students learned about the historical significance of such techniques, which helped local communities manage water during dry seasons. The well’s design, allowing access to water at different levels, showcased the ingenuity of ancient civilizations in adapting to their environment.
Next, the group explored Sada Fort, a historical structure perched on a hilltop offering breathtaking views. Students learned about the fort’s strategic importance and its role in historical defense systems. The visit also emphasized the importance of preserving heritage sites to understand regional history and architectural advancements.
The highlight of the trip was a trek to the Sada Waterfall, nestled deep within the Western Ghats. Along the way, students witnessed the rare Karvi flower (Strobilanthes callosa) in full bloom—an extraordinary event that occurs once every eight years. The phenomenon sparked curiosity among students as they learned about its significance in the local ecosystem, where it provides food for pollinators and contributes to ecological balance.
Throughout the excursion, students gained valuable insights into the intersection of history, culture, and ecology. The visit to the Step Well demonstrated ancient water conservation techniques still relevant today, while the Sada Fort gave students an appreciation for historical preservation. The trek to the Sada Waterfall reinforced the importance of understanding the biodiversity of the Western Ghats, with the blooming Karvi flower serving as a vivid reminder of the region’s ecological significance.

The Skill Development and Monitoring Cell of Government College, Borda (Autonomous), in collaboration with the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Margao, successfully conducted a skill-based certificate course under the Chief Minister's Kaushalya Path Scheme (CMKPS). The Certificate Course in Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) commenced on 18th September 2024, with Ms. Diksha Diwakar Naik as the course instructor.
This 150-hour course aimed to provide students with practical training and theoretical knowledge essential for careers in information technology and office administration. The sessions were held at the ITI College Margao campus, where students received structured guidance on key computer applications and programming fundamentals.
A total of 20 students enrolled and actively participated in the course. Their attendance and performance were closely monitored to ensure they fulfilled the required competencies.
The 150-hour certificate course in Computer Operator and Programming Assistant played a crucial role in enhancing students' digital skills and preparing them for careers in IT and office administration. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Government College, Borda organized a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) for the teaching faculty on 15th March 2025, from 12:00 Noon onwards. The session was conducted by Mr. Alroy Mascarenhas, Assistant Professor of Commerce. This FDP served as a follow-up to the Workshop on OBE conducted in February, where Prof. Jacob Mendes was the resource person. The objective of this FDP was to enhance faculty members' understanding of the process of recording and assessing learning outcomes using a specially designed program.
Mr. Alroy Mascarenhas introduced an innovative Excel-based programme to facilitate the recording and evaluation of OBE data. The hands-on session provided training on data entry, ensuring accurate mapping of Course Outcomes (COs) with Programme Outcomes (POs) and Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs).

The Red Ribbon Club organized an awareness talk titled "HIV/AIDS Awareness: Knowledge is Power" to educate students and participants on the critical aspects of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS. The session was conducted by Dr. Wanda Viegas, a Senior Medical Officer at the ART Centre, GMC Bambolim, who shared her expertise and insights on the subject.
Dr. Viegas explained various types of STIs, their symptoms, and complications. She highlighted how HIV attacks the immune system, leading to AIDS if left untreated, and emphasized the importance of early detection and treatment through Antiretroviral Therapy (ART).
The session ended with an engaging Q and A, where students clarified doubts about STIs, HIV treatment, and free government healthcare services. Participants were encouraged to become peer educators and promote HIV/AIDS awareness.

The Department of Data Science, in association with the Department of GeoInformatics, celebrated National Science Day on February 28, 2025, marking the discovery of the Raman Effect by the renowned Indian physicist, Sir C.V. Raman. In tribute to this legendary scientist, Mr. Pratham Virdikar from F.Y. B.Sc. Data Science created a stunning rangoli, while Mr. Jatin Gaonkar sketched an incredible portrait of Sir C.V. Raman.
The celebration was followed by a Project Exhibition in the canteen block, where students from F.Y. B.Sc. Data Science and M.Sc. GeoInformatics showcased their innovative projects.

The Centre for Outcome Based Education of Government College, Borda, Margao Goa (Autonomous), in collaboration with the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa, organized a One-Day Inter-Institutional Workshop on “Outcome Based Education (OBE)” on January 18, 2025. The primary objective of the workshop was to create awareness about Outcome-Based Education and provide hands-on training on calculating outcome attainment.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Medus Jacob, Professor and Director of the MCA Programme at Marian College, Kuttikkanam (Autonomous), Kerala.
The workshop saw participation from faculty members of Government Colleges across Goa, including in-house faculty members of Government College, Borda. The Software Development Team from the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE), headed by Ms. Vandana Naik, along with team members Mr. Abhishek Gudekar and Mr. Mayur Naik, also attended the event. A total of 42 participants, including 12 faculty members from other colleges, engaged in the sessions.
The workshop commenced with an inaugural function at 9:30 AM. The esteemed Chief Guest for the event was Shri Prasanna Acharya, IAS, Director of the Department of Information Technology, Electronics, and Communication, Government of Goa.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory session where participants were awarded certificates. Principal Prof. F.M. Nadaf shared his feedback on the overall session. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Pooja Dalvi, followed by the National Anthem and a group photograph.

A total of 29 students from our college enthusiastically participated in the competition, representing our institution with diligence, eloquence, and commendable parliamentary decorum. The talk was highly interactive, with students actively participating in discussions and posing insightful questions. Mr. Antao shared his experiences of wildlife rescue operations, making the session engaging and informative. A total of 60 students attended the talk.
The session successfully raised awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation. Students gained valuable insights into the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the necessity of preserving biodiversity.
The talk inspired students to contribute towards wildlife conservation efforts in their own capacities. Their participation in discussions and their enthusiasm for the topic reflected the success of the session in sparking interest in wildlife protection.
